Cogeneration, Waste-to-Energy, Biomass, and Solid-Fueled Power Stations

Fluor’s extensive experience in thermal power generation encompasses facilities supporting a variety of industries, equipment configurations and fuel types, including combined cycle, cogeneration, biomass and waste-to-energy. Fluor has provided EPC services on over 62,000 MW of thermal power facilities.

With EPC, commissioning and operations & maintenance services experience on projects ranging in size from 10 MW to1,600 MW, Fluor's solutions offer superior unit availability, reliability, efficiency and overall cost-effectiveness. These advantages are delivered via integrated services spanning the project’s life cycle, from site selection, project development, scoping and definition, engineering, procurement, construction, start-up/commissioning and operations & maintenance.

Gas - Cogeneration

Cogeneration (Combined Heat and Power or CHP) can significantly improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions and control future energy costs by utilizing waste heat produced in energy intensive industrial, refinery or manufacturing processes. Fluor has over 6,300 MW experience with cogeneration projects utilizing natural gas, process off gases, and solid fuels, which produce power, process steam and other utilities.

Fluor works with clients’ specific requirements and economic drivers to develop fit for purpose facilities. Starting at the design phase, Fluor develops the overall CHP cycle configuration optimized to match project and stakeholder requirements for reliability and cost efficiency. Key criteria considered during the design are constructability, maintainability and operability. Fluor has the expertise to integrate and interface to existing facilities and processes as well as for the development of new facilities.

Fluor’s knowledge, experience and relationships with major gas and steam turbine suppliers and heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) manufacturers help streamline the design, procurement and construction process, eliminating potential rework and avoiding schedule and cost delays.

Solid Fuel

Fluor's experience covers all aspects of pulverized coal as well as fluidized-bed combustion plant designs.

Fluor can generate coal-fired designs using pre-engineered reference plant designs, using state-of-the-art automation and collaboration tools. Fluor’s reference plant designs achieve the highest standards in performance, reliability, availability, operability and maintainability. Fluor's reference designs can shorten lead times, reduce capital costs and promote shorter schedules.

Fluor pre-engineered reference power plant designs include the following configurations:

65 MW, 200 MW, 400 MW, 600 MW, 800 MW, 1000 MW, 2x65, 2x800, 3x65

Fluor draws on our extensive thermal power knowledge and experience to deliver clients efficient and cost-effective power facilities in a safe and reliable manner.

Waste-to-Energy and Biomass

Fluor’s broad background includes EPC and commissioning services for opportunistic fuels requiring specialized experience and equipment. Fluor expertise ranges from new facilities to utilize these opportunistic fuels and also facility equipment retrofits and fuel conversion projects.

Fluor generates facility designs readily and efficiently. Fluor’s vast library of reference plant designs and expertise in systems integration facilitates solutions optimized for lowest capital costs and shortened schedules.
